Average Directional Index

The Average Directional Index (ADX) is a momentum indicator used to measure the strength of a trend in financial markets. Developed by J. Welles Wilder, ADX quantifies trend strength without indicating the trend’s direction. It typically ranges from 0 to 100, with values above 25 suggesting a strong trend and values below 20 indicating a weak or non-trending market.

In finance, traders and analysts use ADX to aid in decision-making. A rising ADX value signifies a strengthening trend, encouraging traders to enter positions in the direction of the trend. Conversely, a falling ADX suggests a lack of trend, prompting traders to be cautious. ADX often helps identify potential entry and exit points in trading strategies, as well as the overall market environment, making it a valuable tool for both short-term and long-term traders in various asset classes.
