In a recent tweet, renowned blockchain security outlet PeckShieldAlert has released a rundown of crypto hacks in September 2024\. According to the on-chain security platform, over 20 security breach incidents happened in September, resulting in losses of $120.23 million. Notably, PeckShieldAlert mentioned that $32.4 million worth of spWETH forfeited in a permit signature phishing was not part of the estimated amount. The implication of the omission implied that the reported losses could have possibly been over $150 million. Comparatively, September witnessed a lesser amount of losses via scams. For context, only April recorded a smaller amount, with about $60.19 million in forfeited assets. On the other hand, May remained the month with the highest losses after relinquishing $574.6 million. #PeckShieldAlert September 2024 saw 20+ hacks in the crypto space, leading to \~$120.23 million in losses. However, Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs) suffered more security compromise attacks, with fewer forfeited assets. Per PeckShieldAlert, Singapore-based exchange BingX and Indodax, another trading platform in Indonesia, accounted for over 50% of the relinquished assets. BingX and Indodax are Centralised platforms. In September, both witnessed losses of about $44 million and $21 million, respectively. BingX became the victim of malicious actors after its hot wallet was compromised, leading to the losses specified by PeckShieldAlert. The Singapore-based exchange has since resumed operations after the unfortunate event. Penpie led the losses chart for decentralized platforms after relinquishing $27 million to an exploitative attack. Others include Delta Prime with $6 million, Truflation with $5.6 million, and Bedrock with $1.75 million. It is worth noting that Shezmu, a crypto lender that lost $4.9 million, recovered part of the funds following on-chain negotiation with the hacker. Meanwhile, the Telegram bot, Banana Gun, witnessed about $3 million in losses. However, according to previous news, the Telegram-based entity reported reimbursement possibilities for the eleven affected victims.
