Free Rider

In cryptocurrency, a Free Rider refers to someone who benefits from the work or resources of others in the network without contributing anything themselves. This can happen in various ways, such as by using the infrastructure or technology without paying for it, or by taking advantage of the efforts of others to secure the network without participating in those efforts.

This can be a problem because it can lead to an imbalance of resources and incentives in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. If too many people free ride on the efforts of others, it can weaken the security and stability of the network, making it more vulnerable to attacks or manipulation.

To address this issue, some cryptocurrency networks implement mechanisms to incentivize participation and discourage free riding. For example, participants may be rewarded with tokens or other benefits for contributing to the network’s security or functionality. This helps ensure that the network remains robust and sustainable over time, benefiting all participants.
