Proof of Burn (PoB)

Proof of Burn is a consensus algorithm that involves the destruction of cryptocurrency tokens by sending them to a verifiably unspendable address. It is a method of distributing new tokens by requiring users to “burn,” or destroy, some of their existing tokens. This process helps in achieving a fair distribution of tokens while also providing a way to secure the network.

In Proof of Burn, users demonstrate commitment to the network by sacrificing some of their tokens, which acts as a form of investment. This method is seen as more energy-efficient compared to Proof of Work, as it does not require miners to solve complex mathematical puzzles to validate transactions. Instead, the act of burning tokens serves as a way to validate transactions and secure the network.

By destroying tokens, users reduce the overall supply of the cryptocurrency, which can potentially increase the value of the remaining tokens. Proof of Burn is also believed to discourage hoarding and promote a more active circulation of tokens within the network. Ultimately, Proof of Burn is a unique approach to achieving distributed consensus in a cryptocurrency network.
