Unspent Output

When a cryptocurrency transaction occurs, it involves sending funds from one or more inputs to one or more outputs. Each output represents the destination address where the funds are being sent. An unspent output, also known as UTXO (unspent transaction output), refers to a specific output that has not been spent and is available to be used as an input for a new transaction.

Unspent outputs are crucial in the cryptocurrency ecosystem as they help maintain the integrity of the blockchain. To verify a new transaction, the network checks if the inputs used to fund it are indeed unspent outputs. This process ensures that funds are not double-spent and helps prevent fraud.

In simple terms, unspent outputs represent the funds that have not been used in previous transactions and are still available for future transactions. They are like digital coins waiting to be spent and form the basis for every cryptocurrency transaction.
