This aspect of the system provided a way for the network to verify and time-stamp new coins, because unless a majority of the parties agreed to accept new solutions, they couldn’t start on the next puzzle.

The key difference between Bit Gold and Bitcoin was that Szabo never solved the double-spending problem in a fully trustless way, and Bit Gold was never actually built and deployed. 

Bitcoin refined and completed what Szabo had outlined, but the intellectual blueprint was his. In 2015, the subsequent blockchain Ethereum named a subunit of the Ethereum value token the “Szabo,” directly acknowledging his contribution to the field.

Grey collated all of Satoshi’s unusual phrases and terms and then searched the web for any written content that matched Satoshi’s profile. Szabo matched more closely than any other candidate.

Nathaniel Popper wrote in The New York Times that “the most convincing evidence pointed to a reclusive American man of Hungarian descent named Nick Szabo.”

And yet, Szabo denies it consistently and firmly. In a July 2014 email to Frisby, Szabo said: “I’m afraid you got it wrong doxing me as Satoshi, but I’m used to it.”
