An estimated 774 million people owned cryptocurrency in June 2026, according to Crypto.com’s H1 2026 market-sizing report. That compares with 741 million in December 2025, an increase of 4.5% using the report’s underlying estimates.
This resource brings together ownership estimates, adoption rankings, regional research and regulatory evidence. The measures answer different questions: how many people hold crypto, where activity is concentrated and which rules apply to service providers. None should be used as a substitute for the others.
- Ownership continued to grow: Crypto.com estimates 373 million Bitcoin owners and 191 million Ether owners in June 2026. These groups overlap and should not be added together. Read the report.
- Cross-border stablecoin activity expanded: Chainalysis measured $220.3 billion during July 2025–June 2026, up 77.5%. Its estimate excludes transfers whose two ends cannot be assigned to countries. View the adoption research.
- Latin America’s crypto activity grew: The region’s measured crypto economy reached $593.8 billion during July 2025–June 2026, up 9.8%. Explore the regional findings.
- Ownership and spending remain different: In the Federal Reserve’s 2025 US survey, 9% of adults bought or held crypto as an investment, while 2% used it for financial transactions. Respondents could report more than one use. See the survey results.
- Regulation depends on the activity: Permission to operate an exchange does not automatically mean crypto can be used for payments or that it is legal tender. The country evidence below identifies each regulatory source and its scope.
